Earlier this month, Ionne was recognized in a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Alumnus spotlight by Union Institute & University. Ionne received his P.H.D. in interdisciplinary studies from Union Institute in 2019. While at Union he he completed a creative dissertation by creating an album called The Garden, which was based on The Fire Next Time by James Baldwin.
