Rod Harris Jr. Releases New EP, “Midnight Sky” in Collaboration with Saunders Sermons
Updated: Nov 18
Grammy-nominated jazz guitarist Rod Harris Jr. released his latest EP, “Midnight Sky.” The EP is a collaboration between RHJ and two-time Grammy-winning jazz artist Saunders Sermons (formerly of Maxwell & Tedeschi/Trucks Band). This is Harris’ latest release on the 5015 Records label, recently founded by him and his brother, Maurice Lajuane Harris, earlier this year.
On “Midnight Sky,” RHJ and Saunders reimagine four classic songs by the legendary soul group The Isley Brothers adding their own unique spin of jazz, hip-hop, and soul to each track. “Midnight Sky” is a star-studded EP, also showcasing the talents of many other Grammy-Award winning artists and personnel. The EP features saxophonist Chelsea Baratz, delivering an amazingly sensual saxophone performance on “Sensuality” and Maurice “Mobetta'' Brown, rounding out the EP with a stunning trumpet solo on “Work to Do.” Listen to the “Midnight Sky” EP via the link below.
With their musical versatility on full display, Rod Harris Jr and Saunders Sermons will perform jazz, hip hop and soul, as well as pieces from the new “Midnight Sky” EP at the elegant Chayz Lounge, one of the premier jazz venues in the southeast, in Columbia, South Carolina on November 19th and 20th. “Performing and collaborating with a world-class artist like Saunders allows me to delve into a wide range of genres and take the audience on a musical journey,” notes Harris.
